War Letter - Mila

Gallipoli 1916
Hi Ma
It's winter here and the cold is almost unbearable.A large proportion of our men are either sick or already dead. We can't even fire our guns for the triggers have jammed and our hands are too numb.

Many of the trenches are filled with icy water including ours, sometimes it will start snowing in the night and you will end up buried under a thick layer of the pure white flakes that has wiped out a great number of our soldiers. It's not all bad though we all try to have a laugh now and then. One day a group of men from my trench pulled a prank on my friend Corrie,we all laughed when she woke up with bits of hard tak frozen all over her face.

My hand is getting numb and sore so I can't write anymore, but will send a note to you soon.

Love Mila
